Argentina: Barley crop estimated at 3.1 mln tonnes this year

Recent estimates put Argentina’s barley crop at 3.1 mln tonnes with farmers‘ sales to-date at 2.4 mln, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their March report.

The nation’s exports of feed barley are estimated at 1.05 mln tonnes, those of malting barley at 1.06 mln tonnes with domestic sales at 0.3 mln tonnes.

Old crop supplies are running low, there are no offers of malting barley, feed barley prices were firmer at USD 217,- FOB seaports as of the end of March. Rumours of inquiries for EU barley are not confirmed, but the Latin American malting barley supply looks very tight indeed.
